97% of LPS Graduating Students are College Bound

Ninety-seven percent of LPS graduates across the network are college bound, many of whom will be first-generation college students. LPS celebrated graduations at all four of our Bay Area campuses this June with inaugural classes at LPS-Hayward and LPS-College Park. Each ceremony was a moving reflection of the dedication of our students and their families along with the LPS teachers, administrators and staff.

Here is an excerpt from the LPS-College Park Valedictorian's address at the inaugural LPS College-Park graduation.

"French author, Victor Hugo wrote, 'He who opens a school door closes a prison'. This quote is the reality for children who grow up in East Oakland. Teenagers in East Oakland either attend school, get caught up with drugs and violence and go to prison or unfortunately end up dying. School is the key to the door of opportunity; the lifeboat from what the streets offer us. Our education will bring us freedom, our education will bring us prosperity, our education will save us from prisons. We are all leaders, we are all successes, we are the class of 2009."  - Marina Cruz, LPS-College Park Valedictorian
