Dr. Waters comes to LPS from the Stupski Foundation where she headed research on districts that have accelerated the performance of students of color and poverty. Her work at Stupski built off of her experience in the Oakland Unified School District. As Associate Superintendent of Student Achievement in Oakland, Dr. Waters led the instructional reforms from 2001 – 2004 that resulted in district achievement gains that out-paced the State. She was also responsible for Oakland’s exit from two long-standing Office of Civil Rights oversight decrees related to bilingual education and disparate academic opportunities for African American students. As a principal in the New Haven district (Union City), she designed award-winning assessment and extended day programs. Prior to her career in district administration, Dr. Waters led the state’s first new teacher program, a partnership between Oakland and the CaliforniaStateUniversity, EastBay. As a professor of Teacher Education at the university, she was head of a number of urban teacher preparation programs. Dr. Waters holds a B.A. and Masters from Stanford University and a Doctorate from Pennsylvania State University.
Ms. Klaffky joined LPS in 2009 as the Principal at LPS Hayward. She has worked as a site and network administrator for LPS since that time. Prior to joining LPS, Lauren worked as an administrator in Oakland Unified School District and was trained in education administration with New Leaders for New Schools. She has also worked for the University of California Puente Project and spent her formative years as a middle and high school teacher in New Mexico and California. Her areas of interest include adult learning, leadership development, college ready curriculum and instruction, and working with first generation college going students. She holds a B.A. in English from Reed College and a Master’s Degree in Education from UC Berkeley.
EXECUTIVE OFFICER OF DATA, SUPPORT, AND TIERED ASSESSMENT
Ms. Epstein has worked as an administrator and consultant with many school districts, schools, foundations, and other non-profit organizations to advance evidence-based dialogue and decision-making. Prior to joining LPS, Ms. Epstein worked for 8 years with the Oakland Unified School District, serving as Data Systems Designer, Coordinator of Data Analysis and Support and Manager of Performance Culture. She began developing her data-related skills “on the job” while serving as a school-based social worker and center director from 1992-1998. Areas of expertise include data systems, assessment of student learning, inquiry processes and tools, stakeholder surveys, and program evaluation. She holds a B.A. from Wesleyan University and a Master’s Degree in Social Work from San Francisco State University.
Prior to joining LPS, Ms. Hoffman worked as Human Resources Director for various organizations including Jewish Community Federation, more.com, and Peet’s Coffee & Tea. At Edgewood Children’s Center, she managed hiring, credentialing and compliance. She began her career as a high school teacher on a path to school leadership. Ms. Hoffman has a Master of Educational Administration from San Francisco State University.
Ms. DiGiacomo is the Director of Technology and Facilities for Leadership Public Schools. Prior to joining LPS in 2009, Ms. DiGiacomo was Director of IT Operations at Exelixis, a development-stage biotechnology company dedicated to the discovery and development of novel small molecule therapeutics for the treatment of cancer and other serious diseases. Ms. DiGiacomo spent 25 years in Information Technology holding positions as Director of Global IT for Gupta Software, Director of Global IT Operations for Clarent Technologies, and Director of Global Networks and Technology Operations at TIBCO Software. She began her technology career working for the Southern Pacific Railroad in San Francisco as a Telecom and Network Engineer. Ms. DiGiacomo holds a degree in Electronics Engineering, a B.S. from Golden Gate University and a Master’s Degree in Information Systems from University of Phoenix.
DIRECTOR OF SPECIAL EDUCATION AND SUPPORT SERVICES
Prior to coming to LPS, Mr. Pacheco worked for Partners In School Innovation serving as a principal coach and school reform consultant for two downtown San Jose schools. He served as Principal of Campbell Middle School in the Campbell Union School District for 10 years until 2003. Mr. Pacheco has worked for the Santa Clara County Office of Education as a Program Specialist for Special Education and more recently as a Program Evaluator for IIUSP schools. He began his career in public education at the Oak Grove School District where he worked for 12 years in Special Education. He received his Undergraduate Degree from San Jose State University and his Master’s Degree in School Administration from the University of San Francisco.
Kate is responsible for designing and executing development and communication strategies at LPS. She joined LPS in 2014 with a passion for helping educational organizations strengthen resources and organizational capacity, build community and partnerships, and tell powerful stories to raise awareness and leverage branding.
Prior to LPS, Kate was a consultant for several Bay Area college access non-profits and served as the Program Manager of the Athletic Scholars Advancement Program (ASAP) in San Francisco. In addition, she has taught communications courses and mentored students at Merritt College, UC Berkeley, UCSD, MIT, Santa Clara University and St. Mary’s College.
Kate began her career in non-profits at the Social Science Research Council and the United Nations, where she worked on international media campaigns and managed grants. She holds a B.A. in Political Science from Barnard College, an M.A. in Communication from UCSD, and a PhD in Communication at UCSD. She and her family live in San Francisco, and in her spare time she dances in Carnaval and organizes music events.
Michael Fauteux is the Director of Innovation at Leadership Public Schools (LPS), managing personalized learning innovations and partnership development. He previously served as the network’s Program Director of Mathematics after working as a Master Mathematics Teacher and Academic Dean at its Hayward site. His innovation work includes co-creating ExitTicket, a real-time student response system, and building Learning Lists, a personalized learning program currently being integrated into Gooru’s learning platform as its Learning Navigator. Prior to joining LPS, he facilitated at Harvard’s Secondary School Redesign Institute, consulted for Boston Public Schools, and taught in Italy and China. Mr. Fauteux holds a B.A. in History from Brown University and a Master’s in Education from Harvard’s Graduate School of Education.
Alexandrea Creer began her career in education as an intern at the Level Playing Field Institute where she researched educational outreach opportunities available to high school students. After earning her B.A. in English at U.C. Berkeley, Alex worked as a School Improvement Partner at Partners In School Innovation. At Partners, Alex coached educators on how to use the results-oriented cycle of inquiry model to provide access and instructional support for underserved students. Her passion for quality education led Ms. Creer to earn an M.A in Education at Stanford University. In 2009, Ms. Creer joined LPS Oakland R&D as an English teacher. She has subsequently been promoted to Academic Dean and Assistant Principal before assuming the role of Principal in 2012. In 2016, Alex transitioned into the role as Director of Teaching and Learning at the Leadership Public Schools Home Office.
As the College Counseling Coordinator, Dr. Aguilar oversees the counseling department at LPS Hayward and supports all college access efforts across the network. Dr. Aguilar immigrated to the Bay Area from Nicaragua and is a first-generation college graduate. Dr. Aguilar was raised in Hayward and graduated from Mt. Eden High School where with the guidance of the Early Academic Outreach Program, was able to enroll at UC Berkeley and earn a BA in Social Welfare. With the financial assistance of the Gates Millennium Scholars Program, she earned a master’s and a doctoral degrees from the University of San Francisco. Over the 15 years, through her capacity as a college professor, school counselor, and college bound coordinator, she has worked directly with students, families, teachers, counselors, and administrators throughout the K-16 pipeline to ensure that students meet their academic, career and personal goals.
Rose joined the LPS network in 2009 after graduating from Baylor University with a BS in Secondary Mathematics Education. At Baylor, Rose played four years of Division I soccer and was honored to be named Captain two of those years. Rose became a Master Teacher at LPS Hayward where she taught Algebra 1, Geometry and Pre-Calculus. Her passion lies with incoming 9th graders in Algebra 1 where she develops student mindsets and beliefs about their abilities. Here, she focuses on developing a classroom culture where students control and analyze data to adjust their own academic plan for mastery. In 2016, Rose transitioned to the Home Office team as the Math Curriculum Specialist. Here, she is working to support the network in transitioning to the Common Core Mathematics Standards.
CAREER AND COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP COORDINATOR - LPS Oakland R&D
Gina Pascual began in July of 2016 as the Community and Career Leadership Coordinator for the Oakland R&D site. Prior to joining us, Ms. Pascual worked as a Social Worker at La Clinica’s teen clinic and has over 7 years of experience working in youth development. As a graduate student in the Social Welfare department at UC Berkeley, Ms. Pascual co-authored three scholarly journals dissecting the intersection of entry-level employees, job hosts and subsidized employment. Ms. Pascual is passionate about creating opportunities for young people, addressing public health disparities and being an active member of her community.
Prior to joining LPS, Rebecca was a faculty member at the Reach Institute for School Leadership, where she worked with dozens of charter schools in the East Bay and San Jose area, teaching and coaching early-career professionals pursuing their credentials. Her classroom work was largely as a high school English and English Language Development teacher in schools in Alameda and Hayward. Rebecca holds a bachelor's degree in Comparative Literature and a master's degree in Education (with a focus on Language, Literacy, and Culture) from U.C Berkeley and a preliminary administrative services credential from Reach Institute. Outside of work, Rebecca enjoys traveling (especially to Spanish-speaking countries), reading (especially novels), playing poker (Texas Hold 'em), cooking and baking (particularly cookies), hiking, and hanging out with her daughter (the best!).
Beth is thrilled to be part of the LPS community and to learn about the dynamics of urban education, providing support to teachers and directors across the network. She has an extensive background in Theatre Arts and Fine Arts, with a BA from the rigorous liberal arts college in Santa Barbara, Westmont College, and is also a proud graduate of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. She is daily discovering new ways to infuse creativity into her role of wearing many hats at LPS. Aside from live theatre, her interests include dancing, reading, giraffes, foreign films, indie rock, coffee, Christmas (always adding to her Christmas sock collection), pizza, Spice Girls, the color turquoise, and cats.
Shawn has been principal at LPS Richmond for 10 years. She first did a principal residency at LPS Richmond 12 years as a New Leaders for New School resident. Shawn earned a B.A in Psychology and Sociology from the University of California at Berkeley and a Masters in Education degree from the University of Pennsylvania as well as the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
Ms. Hayes began her career in education as an Algebra teacher at Oakland Technical High School, where she served as a teacher, Small Learning Community leader, and Math Department Chair. In 2014 she decided to join LPS as an Academic Numeracy teacher at LPS-Hayward. After a year in Hayward, she recognized that her passion was to serve students and families in Oakland. She served as an Academic Dean at LPS Oakland, and transitioned into the Principal Role in 2016. She studied Business as an undergraduate at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and earned her Master's Degree in Education at UC-Berkeley through the Principal Leadership Institute.
D’Lonra is currently Corporate Counsel for Aspire Public Schools, a network of charter schools in California and Tennessee. Formerly, she was Associate Corporate Counsel with Gap, Inc., where she specializes in intellectual property matters. Previously, she was an associate with Howard Rice Nemerovski Canady Falk & Rabkin's Litigation Department where she worked on a wide variety of cases, ranging from employment litigation matters to trademark litigation matters. She also represented Leadership Public Schools on a pro bono basis. Ms. Ellis grew up in Richmond, California. She currently sits on the Board of Lighthouse Community Charter School in Oakland, California.
VICE-CHAIR, LPS BOARD OF TRUSTEES
Luis is the Director of the Career Ladders Project and has over 20 years of extensive statewide experience with K-16 academic achievement development programs in both public and private settings. He oversees the development and implementation of technical assistance strategies across multiple CLP initiatives and projects. He currently supports multiple California Career Pathways Trust grant consortia in Southern and Northern California, along with other pathway initiatives. Luis coordinates a wide range of technical assistance and professional development activities to support innovative and effective teaching and learning in community colleges and high schools. In this work, he builds strategic partnerships with senior leaders of national, statewide, and community-based organizations, educational institutions, and corporate foundations, and represents CLP’s policy and practice portfolio of work.
Before joining CLP, Luis served the Puente Project in the University of California Office of the President for nearly 16 years, developing and leading training and support to college and high school coordinators, counselors, teachers and other staff. Luis currently serves on several state advisory committees for the Career Technical Education (CTE) Community of Practice, working with California Community College Success Network, Reading Apprenticeship Community College Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Network, and the WestEd Regional Educational Laboratory California Community College Alliance, as well as several other community boards, educational and corporate advisory committees to connect his work with industry leaders.
Luis holds an M.A. in education and counseling from California State University, Dominguez Hills and a B.A. in social sciences from the University of California, Irvine. Luis is a proud California community college transfer graduate from Mt. San Antonio College, where he received an A.A. in liberal arts.

Yolanda served Oakland students for over 30 years as teacher, principal, Executive Officer, and Associate Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction. In the latter stages of her career, Yolanda joined the staff of the Developmental Studies Center in Oakland as Director of Professional Development, establishing a national cadre of teacher trainers and coaches. Then, as an executive associate with Performance Fact, Inc., an educational leadership development organization, Yolanda focused on enhancing the leadership capacity of district-level and school leaders.
After retiring in 2008, Yolanda now consults with educational organizations and continues to volunteer with non-profits that are dedicated to improving the health, academic achievement, and life-long success of children and youth. She believes that out of all of life’s infinite lessons, the ones that are most inspiring are those learned daily in classrooms and are grounded in the unwavering confidence, belief, and trust in one’s own and in young people’s unlimited capacity to learn, overcome relentless challenges, and prosper.

Kevin is the Co-Founder of Outspace Systems, Inc and former Partner of Norcob Capital LLC, a private investment and advisory firm he joined in December 2011. Prior to that, Kevin was a Senior Advisor and a Managing Member at Watershed Asset Management, LLC, a San Francisco-based hedge fund that managed up to $2 billion primarily on behalf of institutional investors. Prior to joining Watershed, Mr. Katari was a co-founder and Vice President of Bluefire Systems, Inc., a software and consulting company that delivered solutions to optimize the supply chains of retailers and consumer products companies.
Kevin began his career as a management consultant in the San Francisco Office of McKinsey & Company, Inc., where he served clients in a range of industries on strategic, operational, and organizational issues. Since 2009, Kevin has held several positions, including currently serving as President of the Board of Trustees, for the Seven Hills School in Walnut Creek, California, an independent school that serves 390 students from preschool through 8th grade.
Kevin received a M.B.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of Business in 1995, where he graduated as an Arjay Miller Scholar. He also received a Certificate in Public Management. He earned an A.B. in Physics in 1991 from Harvard University.
David is Managing Director of Russell Reynolds Associates, a member of Russell Reynolds Associates’ Technology Sector and co-leads the Hardware and Electronics Practice. Based in Menlo Park, David conducts CEO, board director and senior-level executive assignments for semiconductor, systems, software and clean-tech companies. Additionally, he specializes in operations and supply chain searches, often helping clients to recruit world-class talent from outside their industry or region. His clients include global public companies as well as private equity-backed emerging growth and turn-around businesses. David has held senior management positions with public and private companies in the software, business services, computer systems and consumer electronics industries.
David received his B.A., summa cum laude,in East Asian studies from Yale University and his M.B.A., with high distinction, from Harvard Business School. He is fluent in English and Japanese.
Dr. Prasad Ram (“Pram”) is the Founder, CEO of Gooru, a non-profit organization with the mission to honor the human right to education. He started working on Gooru as a “20% project” while at Google where he led Google Books for Education in Mountain View CA.
Prior to that, he was the Chief Technology Officer, Google R&D, in India where he led projects on Google Maps, Google News, Language Technologies for translation and transliteration, and Search and Ads products. Prior to Google, Pram led engineering teams at Yahoo! and started his career as a research scientist at Xerox Research.
Pram has a Ph.D. and M.S. in Computer Science from UCLA, and obtained his B.S. in Computer Science from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay.
Chuck Bowes is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) with more than 10 years’ experience helping individuals and families achieve what’s most important to them by aligning their financial resources with their goals and values and providing sound objective advice to facilitate good decision making. Prior to co-founding Waypoint Wealth Partners, Chuck co-founded Runyon and Bowes, a highly regarded independent advisory firm with offices in Northern and Southern California.
Chuck started his career in the technology industry in sales and field marketing for NCR Corporation. His technology career developed into leading highly functional large and small teams to achieve measurable results both financially and personally for all team members. Chuck had success in both large public corporations (NCR and AT&T) as well as small pre-IPO startups (Broadbase Software and Kana).
Chuck grew up in Southern California swimming, surfing and playing water polo. Highlights of his school years included working as a beach lifeguard and running the San Clemente State Junior Lifeguard. His lifeguarding experience and family influence led him to a lifelong passion of working with kids as a youth sports coach and being involved in a variety of local community organizations.
Amy Slater is an attorney and lecturer on the subject of negotiations at the Goldman School of Public Policy at UC Berkeley. From 1997 to 2000 she was the first general counsel of Ask Jeeves, Inc. (now Ask.com). Before joining Ask Jeeves, Ms. Slater worked in the legal department of Oracle Corporation and in private practice in San Francisco and Oakland.
She has a B.A. degree from the University of California San Diego (1976) and a J.D. degree from UC Hastings. (1981).
Briggitte Lowe is the Board parent representative. She grew up in Millbrook, Alabama. She received her B.A. from the University of Alaska in Fairbanks, Alaska. She obtained a J.D. from the Santa Clara School of Law in 1996. She began working as an Alameda County Deputy District Attorney in 1998.
She is currently assigned to the Elder Protection Unit of the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office. She has two children: Kori is ten years old and Kendall is fourteen years old. Both were born in Hayward, California and Kendall attends LPS Hayward.
David is an independent consultant at DigitalPath Partners focused on helping institutions and EdTech companies innovate and amplify the impact of education. He develops actionable strategies and provides operational support for clients to grow and adapt in a rapidly changing education landscape. This work spans accelerating market traction via alliances, sales, and marketing programs to establishing product/market fit during the definition, positioning, and launch of new offerings.
Before DigitalPath Partners, David worked at Samsung’s Korean headquarters driving the development and adoption of mobile educational solutions globally. Prior to Samsung, he grew the digital portfolio of Yale University Press, including the development of a media-rich curriculum, a social scholarship platform, and online distribution partnerships. David initially came to Yale to formulate the university’s online dissemination strategy. Before Yale, David led social media new ventures at AOL’s AIM, and business development at Sybase and Starpoint Solutions. He began career as a consultant developing corporate and product strategy for tech companies in Silicon Valley, such as Adobe, Apple and VeriFone.
David received his B.A. from Harvard University, and an M.B.A. from the Yale School of Management.
Christopher Whitmore is a Richmond native and has aspired to serve his community through public service since childhood. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and Public Law from Webster University in St. Louis, MO in 2014, and worked as an intern in the United States Senate in Washington, D.C. before returning home to Richmond.
After returning home, Christopher became the Outreach Coordinator for West Contra Costa County in the Office of Congressman Mark DeSaulnier and managed Congressman DeSaulnier’s Richmond office. Christopher is currently working in the Office of Richmond Mayor Tom Butt as the Director of Community Engagement.
Christopher remains an active member of the LPS-Richmond community by speaking at school events, providing students internship opportunities, and serving on the Alumni Advisory Board.
Michael Zaninovich is currently Managing Director of Investment Strategy at Robertson Stephens Advisors consulting for Family Offices and Foundations in California and Europe on capital markets, multi-asset class portfolios and manager due diligence.
Prior to joining Robertson Stephens, Michael was a Senior Vice President and Senior Investment Strategist at Wells Fargo Private Bank where he managed some of the largest relationships in the Wells Fargo Wealth Management Group and was a regular speaker and panelist at Private Bank investment events. He was the highest performing investment strategist in terms of assets under management during his tenure at Wells Fargo and was awarded the prestigious Concord Elite designation twice. Prior to Wells Fargo, Michael was a partner in two long/short hedge funds and a consultant to a global macro hedge fund. Representative institutional clients of the funds were Goldman Sachs, the Stanford Endowment and Soros Fund Management.
Michael holds a Masters of International Affairs in International Finance from Columbia University where he was a Columbia Corporate Fellow and holds a BA from Cornell University. Michael is fluent in Japanese and Italian. He is a semi-professional jazz saxophonist and gigs regularly around the Bay Area. He also serves on the board of directors of the California Jazz Conservatory in Berkeley.
Kelley D. Gulley is President of KDG Enterprises, Inc. (KDG) and the immediate past Interim Managing Director and Portfolio Director of the Thrive Foundation for Youth, and the previous President & CEO of the National Community Development Institute (NCDI). Kelley is also the past President of the Indianapolis Private Industry Council, a $19 million non-profit quasi-governmental organization, where she spent five successful years heavily impacting the workforce development arena in the City of Indianapolis and the State of Indiana.
Previous positions include Midwest Regional Director and Executive Vice President for NCDI, Special Projects Administrator for Eastern Star Church in Indianapolis, Indiana, and Vice President for Management and Program Services at the Community Development Institute (CDI) in East Palo Alto, California.
Kelley has cultivated extensive experience and skills in organizational management, program & policy development, organizational/corporate training & facilitation, as well as professional writing and public speaking. She is a master at community convening, promoting collaborative partnerships, visioning, long-range planning and fund development. She earned her Masters of Business Administration with a focus on Business Management from the University of Phoenix in Northern California and holds a Bachelor of Science in Pre-Med/Zoology from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.
Kelley’s previous volunteer service includes the Trinity House Academy Board of Directors (Chair) in Indianapolis, Indiana; the United Way of the Bay Area SparkPoint Regional Advisory Committee; the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Economic Intervention Development Project Bay Area Local Advisory Committee; the Skillman Foundation 2016 Task Force in Detroit, Michigan; the Alliance for Nonprofit Management Governance Committee; the Annie E. Casey Foundation Partner Organizations of Color Executive Group; and World Conquerors Church Vision in Action Team.
Kelley has been married for 31 years to her high school sweetheart, Dominic Gulley, Sr. They have a daughter, Racquel, who is married to her college sweetheart, Rickey and they have a beautiful, 10-month old daughter. Their son, Dominic, Jr., is serving in the United States Navy in Sasebo, Japan. In addition to her work at KDG Enterprises, Inc., Kelley serves as an Ordained Minister and a member of the teaching faculty at World Conquerors Church in Oakland, California, where Pastor Daren L. Barron is the Senior Pastor.
