"The attention and support I receive from teachers and staff at LPS is overwhelming. I feel like I am part of a family and I know I can do anything I set my mind to."

A low-income student in the U.S. today has a 13 percent likelihood of graduating from college,
while an upper-income student’s chances are 75 percent. Indeed, in California, just one quarter of low-income students even
take the required courses to attend a California state university. LPS aims to bridge this academic divide by
having all its students satisfy U.C. eligibility requirements and sending 100 percent of its graduates to college.
Providing learning opportunities outside of the regular school day is essential to achieving this goal. With 43 percent
of students entering LPS classrooms three to seven years behind grade level, our students need intensive support
to accelerate their learning and catch up with their peers. We need to help them grow academically at a fast rate.
Individualized attention and instruction are critical in closing the so-called "achievement gap" and a hallmark
of all LPS schools. The personalized academic support we provide is essential in preparing the students
we serve for college. Research has consistently demonstrated that individual or small group tutoring is
one of the most impactful academic interventions available for students with severe academic deficiencies.
With your help, we can provide:
- Outside tutors for students needing extra help in specific subject areas
- Specific tutoring for English language learners
- Software targeted at students far behind in reading and math
- Online learning classes for academically advanced students seeking AP courses not normally offered due to small class sizes
- Libraries and librarians
- Volunteer coordinator at each school to arrange volunteer tutoring and mentoring
Every child benefits from the Annual Enrichment Fund. Even a small gift has a big impact. You can choose which enrichment area you would like to support and start making a difference in the lives of students throughout the Bay Area today.
