Leadership Public Schools are tuition-free, public high schools open to all students who want to create and pursue a dream to go to college. The Leadership Public Schools' approach - innovation, constant assessment and a committment to personalized learning pathways for every student - is leveraging the best of the public and private sectors to develop breakthrough programs with the potential to transform teaching and learning.

LPS-Hayward profiled on Edutopia, the George Lucas Educational Foundation, as an example of excellence in teacher professionalism and collaboration.

Castlemont Green Pioneers
The Green Pioneers Program is a Castlemont Community of Small Schools and LPS-College Park sustainability force of 30-50 students. Select student-interns act as stipended Green Pioneer Student Leaders. Students design and carry out environmentally-focused, sustainable, and peace-promoting projects that benefit themselves, their peers and the community.

The Freshmen Leadership Retreat
The Freshmen Leadership Retreat is a key component of our program and is held the week before school begins for all incoming 9th graders. Students from all four LPS schools gather for two nights and three days of team-building activities. Students are grouped in the advisories that they will be working in throughout the year and, before school even begins, they learn to work together as a team that values the diversity of our school community. The Leadership Retreat also provides an opportunity to introduce students to college life and get their first glimpse into LPS' unique culture: a small community that encourages self expression, exploration and the personal growth of each individual student.

Week Without Walls
Walk on an LPS campus during Week Without Walls and you may find empty classrooms and lonely lunch rooms. This is because for one week in each school year, every LPS student has the opportunity to experience learning outside of the usual classroom format. Week Without Walls, an LPS Signature Experience, is designed to help build student leadership skills and foster connections to the school and local communities.

Epic Martial Arts
Twenty students from Epic Martial Arts at LPS-San Jose took part in a life-changing journey to Lake Tahoe as part of the programs third annual black belt test, hosted by Master Greg D. Garcia of the Academy of Martial Philosophy.

Week With Wings
LPS-College Park students took a journey into the sky with lessons on the physics of flight. Students did hands-on activities with rubber band-powered planes, used a flight simulator and built foam remote control airplanes. Over half the students had a chance to be co-pilots and flew in real airplanes with the Young Eagles flight instructors in Vacaville.
