Talented and Committed Staff, Supported by Extensive Professional Development
The best teachers inspire all students. At an LPS school, our expectations of our teachers are just as high as those we place
on our students. The LPS hiring process is painstaking and focuses on three main qualifications: academic expertise in a chosen field,
experience with diverse youth in a classroom, and most importantly collegiality. LPS teachers collaborate weekly, are organized into
small groups led by an experienced lead teacher, and participate in a peer coaching system; thus the ability to work as a team is just
as imperative for our students as it is for our teachers.
Leadership Public Schools believes that it is possible to attract and retain talented teachers by sharing an exciting vision
committed to excellence and creating a professional environment where staff can learn and grow along with their students. To that
end, LPS invests heavily in professional development for our staff. All teachers participate in at least 15 days of staff development
per year including:
- 5 days of summer training to become fluent with our culture and program.
- 5 days of staff development interspersed throughout the academic year.
- 5 days of training at the end of the school year, to evaluate school progress and set goals for the upcoming year.
Just as students are constantly evaluated at an LPS school, so are our teachers. 360 degree evaluations are completed bi-annually
and include input from students, colleagues and the administration.
