Q: What is the First-Year College Program?
A: A new program introduced in Winter 2011, it enables LPS-College Park students to enter college already ahead in their coursework. This onsite, community college freshmen program features online college courses and counseling resources. All students will begin their college coursework as seniors receiving 2 units of college credit upon completion of the “Transition to College” course. Students may continue college credit courses the summer after graduation. Those choosing the community college route may complete additional first year college courses in the evenings at LPS- College Park.
Q: Do you have sports teams at the school?
A: Unfortunately due to CIF rules we cannot offer sports at College Park. However, College Park students are able to join Castlemont sports teams. Castelmont offers a variety of sports including football, basketball, and soccer.
Q: What is the dress code?
A: Jeans, khaki type pants, slacks, dress pants or bottoms that are worn at the waist with a belt. Pants must be of appropriate size and may not sag, be worn below the waist or expose any undergarments. Collared shirt of any color including polo style, button down, or dress shirt. All shirts must have a collar.
Q: What happens if you do not come in dress code?
A: Students who are not in dress code will be sent home to change and are expected to come back to school in dress code.
Q: How many students are accepted each year?
A: We accept as many students as possible. If we are enrolled to capacity students are admitted by lottery.
Q: Can students leave campus for lunch?
A: Our school is a closed campus. Students are not allowed to leave the school at any time during the school day without permission from their parents.
Q: Will there be P.E.?
A: Because LPS is a charter school we are not required to have P.E. The Federal Government, however, requires a physical fitness test to be given to all students at the end of their freshman year.
Q: Is community service required?
A: Yes. 20 hours of community service per year are required for graduation from LPS College Park.
Q: Are there dances?
A: Yes. Check the calendar for dates and details.
Q: How many students are in each class?
A: On average we have 25-30 students in each class with one teacher.
Q: What language classes are available?
A: Currently, we are offering Spanish.
Q: How does the school help students apply for college?
A: In Leadership Advisory, students have the opportunity to write their college applications and essays. We offer extracurricular activities that can be put on college applications, such as leading school activities and peer tutoring. We are also have a college counselor that will help students select the right colleges for them and ensure they are prepared to apply.

Q: Does your school accept student with IEPs?
A: Because we are a public school we are open to all students, including those with IEPs. We have fantastic RSP teachers here on campus that work in class with our students who have IEPs.
Q: How do we go about enrolling as upperclassmen?
A: Transfer students must submit a transcript along with their application. This allows us to discuss what classes they would need to take in order to graduate from our school. They will be part of a separate lottery that happens to fill open spots we have in the school. This lottery happens in March.
