SCHOOL WIDE REMINDERS

• Pre-order your yearbook today!  We are now selling yearbooks in the main office. Yearbooks cost $45. You can pay with personal check or cash. Yearbooks will be distributed at the end of the school year.   

• Hayward Youth Commission is recruiting new members- They are looking for students, age 13 to 20, who attend Hayward schools or live within the Hayward Unified School District boundaries, to serve on the Commission. This is a great opportunity for students to get involved and provide direct input on matters affecting local youth to City of Hayward, Hayward Unified School District, and Hayward Area Recreation Department representatives. Applications due by May 16. If you are interested you can pick up an application from your teachers or your counselor.

• Journey to Success An Educational Summit for First Generation Asian American and Pacific Islander Students and Families Saturday, May 19, 2012 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Cal State East Bay Event Highlights Include: Educational, College and Career related Workshops for Middle and High School Students and their families, College and Resource Fair, including representatives from CSU campuses, community colleges and community vendors, and Free Lunch and Parking. Please visit their website for more information and to register online to this FREE event: www.csueastbay.edu/journeytosuccess 

• LPS Hayward is hiring a Meal Assistant!LPS Hayward is seeking a student to join the meal service crew for the 2012-2013 school year. This is a paid position where students earn minimum wage. To be eligible you must: be a rising 10^th or 11^th grader (9^th or 10^th now), maintain a GPA of 2.7 or higher, have an excellent attendance record, be willing to give up your breaks and lunch periods. Meal assistants assist “Grandma” and Ms. Aguilar daily to set up and distribute breakfast and lunch. Please see Ms. Rivera in the Main Office for more information.

• Sophomores: Reminder that the AP English entrance assignment is due Thursday 5/17.  If you have not picked up a packet, come by Ms. Abeles’ room.

• JUNIORS! Check your professional email and follow up on deadlines set by counselors.

9^th – 12^th NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS
 

• Applications for student government: Interested in taking a more active role in school events and planning next year? Stop by Ms. Zapata's room B1 Thursday at lunch to pick up your application for the 2012-2013 student leadership class.
  
  
• Attention Seniors -- We are currently seeking applicants for the Senior Class Speaker. If you are interested in delivering a speech at graduation this June, email a draft of your speech to Ms. Allbright (tallbright@leadps.org) by 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 30. Seniors will vote on their speaker on Friday, June 1 during lunch. If you have any questions, ask Ms. Allbright.
  
  
• Sophomores – Turn in the AP English entrance assignment to Ms. Abeles by this Thursday.  No late assignments will be accepted.

SPORTS

• Lady Royals Soccer: Today we play Kipp at 4:00 p.m. at Pepsi Field. We have our LAST PRACTICE of the season tomorrow, then we play LPS Richmond on Wednesday at 4pm at Pepsi Field for our last game of the regular season. After that, it’s the playoffs. See Edmodo for the explanation of the playoffs.

• There will be a meeting in K-1 on Thursday at lunch for boys interested in playing basketball this summer.

• The baseball team closed out league play by going undefeated with a 6-0 league record by beating Unity 23 to 2 last Thursday. The team opens up playoffs this week with a semi final game on Monday. With a win the team would play in the Championship game on Wednesday. Check with the office for location and times of playoff games.
