Free Dress Policy

When students are given the opportunity for free dress, the following rules must be followed. If students choose to disregard these rules, their opportunity to participate in free dress will be limited or taken away completely.

FRESHMEN
The Freshmen class must have a weekly attendance percentage of at least 93% in order to have free dress on Fridays.

COLORS/LANGUAGE

  • Students are not to wear any outfits that are predominantly red or blue in color.
  • Garments must not make reference to "North", "East", "West" or "South" in any language.
  • Garments must not have inappropriate language or make reference to any sexual, drug-related, gang, alcohol related or violent behavior.


SHIRTS

  • Shirts must be sized appropriately and must not hang past the fingertips when arms are at one's sides.
  • No tank tops, tube tops, or halter tops are allowed.
  • All shirts must have sleeves of some sort.
  • The neckline of all shirts must be no deeper than four inches.


SWEATSHIRTS/JACKETS/SWEATERS

  • Sweatshirts, jackets, and sweaters must be sized appropriately.
  • Logos must be small and school appropriate.


SHOES/SOCKS

  • All shoes must be closed toe. No slippers or flip flops allowed.
  • No Nike Cortez Shoes.


PANTS/SKIRTS

  • Bottoms worn for free dress must be worn at the natural waist and must not have excessive fabric stacked on the shoes.
  • Skirts and shorts must not hang past the fingertips when hands are by one’s sides.
  • Skirts and shorts can be no shorter than two inches above the knee.
  • Stretchy fabrics or form fitting clothing of any kind is not allowed.


ACCESSORIES

  • Hats, hoods, and sunglasses cannot be worn inside any building.
  • Jewelry and other accessories must not be a distraction to anyone.
  • Belt buckles must not have any logos or words on them. 
  • Rubber bands, pins and/or staples may not be used to modify any article of clothing.


SCHOOL APPROPRIATENESS

  • No underwear of any type may be exposed at any time. This includes both boys' and girls' garments. Bra straps and underwear waistbands must not show at any time.
  • No skin is to be exposed at the waistline.
  • Undergarments must not be blantantly apparent - such as a bright red bra worn under a white t-shirt so that it shows through.
  • Students are not allowed to write on their hands, other skin, clothing, school supplies or other people and their belongings.


LPS-SAN JOSE DANCES/SPIRIT DAYS

Exceptions to the free dress rules may be made for dances or spirit days. Students will be given the specific dress code prior to the day of the event. If no special rules are given, students can assume they must follow the free dress guidelines above. Special circumstances may include: Halloween costumes, formal dresses that have small or no straps, particular theme or colored clothing, etc.
